WHAT IS VIRTUAL DESKTOP INFRASTRUCTURE?

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, (VDI), refers to the process of running a user desktop inside a virtual machine that lives on a server in the datacenter. It is a very effective form of desktop virtualization because it enables fully personalized desktops for each user while being able to control the management and security for all users centrally.

HOW DOES VIRTUAL DESKTOP INFRASTRUCTURE WORK AT ANKABUT?

Users have a computer where all the software, operating systems, and applications are stored on a server in the Ankabut data center. Individual users can then access their virtual machines anywhere, anytime over the internet. This solution allows member institutions to deploy applications and data across the extended enterprise, while simultaneously lowering the total cost of ownership for technology infrastructure.

WHAT VALUE DOES THIS SERVICE ADD TO ANKABUT MEMBERS?

Storing all operating systems, software and applications in a central server reduces the overall infrastructure, hardware and licensing costs for institutions. Ankabut pricing is particularly competitive for VDI and represents a tiny fraction of the cost of physical desktops.

Through a robust provisioning process at Ankabut, a virtual desktop can be set up in a few minutes as opposed to a few hours as is the case for physical machines. Issues can be handled remotely and quickly, thus increasing the efficiency of available technical support and lowering IT administrative costs.

Virtual desktops are accessible anywhere and anytime over the internet. This allows institutions to provide access to students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

VDI is considered a green initiative since it consolidates computing resources and reduces energy consumption.

The Ankabut VDI solution also improves hardware lifecycles; since processing is mostly done on the Ankabut server, computer terminals will need fewer replacements. Overall there are fewer investments in infrastructure and PC refresh cycles.

The Ankabut VDI solution is also scalable for additional users; with hardware and servers that can be added centrally, increasing the number of users becomes a simple task.

Finally, VDI at Ankabut ensures that security updates, backups and other administrative processes are automated centrally, thus simplifying the on-site IT administration for member clients.
